From our offices in Strathalbyn and Adelaide, Sturt Fleurieu coordinates both Rural and General Pathway training. We are well placed to ensure that registrars successfully complete all their rural, outer metropolitan and area of workforce shortage training requirements.

This is a complex area but we have staff that are well briefed to understand issues as they arise. We also have an excellent range of practices which will enable you to meet these requirements without compromising your training needs.

INNOVATION

Sturt Fleurieu’s approach to training is one of the most innovative and recognised in the
country, and includes:
gp-start; a unique program at the core of your training, gp-start has been specifically developed in conjunction with senior general practice training supervisors to ease the transition from hospital to general practice, and focuses on the diagnosis and management of common clinical problems in patients.
gp-advanced; forming the basis of your comprehensive RACGP Exam preparation,
gp-advanced gives you the opportunity to review patient scenarios in-depth and to develop practice exam questions.
Workshops; held in large and small-group formats, these workshops further explore complex medical issues and their treatments, including those encountered in women’s and aboriginal health areas.
PGPPP; targets junior doctors who are undertaking hospital training but have not yet enrolled in a specialty, and provides the opportunity to experience supervised general practice at an early stage of training.
 

  ADVANCED SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

As you move through your Sturt Fleurieu training program, a carefully-developed Advanced skills programs are also available to help you further develop a range of medical skills:

Clinical Attachments; offered in a range of specialist areas including medical education, diabetes, sexual assault and domestic violence, chronic pain and addiction treatment, disability medicine and palliative care. Delivered concurrently with GP training terms.
pro-start; hands-on learning guides which provide early exposure to rural procedural practice, including Emergency Training, specifically developed with general practice in mind and Anaesthetics, which provides the opportunity to learn anaesthetic skills under the guidance of a anaesthetics supervisor in general practice.
Extended skills; placement and training in specialised 3 or 6-month skills posts.
Advanced Rural Skills; provides the opportunity for registrars to develop extra skills in a number of core disciplines through undertaking an advanced rural skills post.
derm-start; helps in the diagnosis and management of skin problems commonly seen in general practice settings.

Where a registrar experiences training difficulties we offer access to well-being and remediation programs designed specifically to the registrar’s needs.
