Academic Attachments

Doing an academic term gives you the opportunity to experience research during your general practice training.

Working as a GP you are surrounded by evidence and promotional material and it can be difficult to know how to evaluate, appraise and apply this research to your patients.

Academic posts are funded 12 month part-time research positions that allow you to try out research and develop skills in leadership, teaching, project work and critical thinking.

Doing research provides the opportunity to challenge yourself, learn different skills and adds variety to your clinical work by experiencing academic life.

There are also opportunities to attend fully funded workshops throughout the year and present your work at conferences. Most importantly, doing research allows you to contribute to the evidence that general practice is based on and enables improvement on your ability to apply knowledge and research to patients.
