Description of practice location Our practice is located in the Adelaide Hills, 14kms from Adelaide CBD and less than 5kms from Flinders Medical Centre.

Practice type and size

Nine partner doctors of who 4 are GP Supervisors and an additional 4 associate doctors (9 FTE). Four nursing staff (2 FTE), 9 reception staff and practice manager. Blackwood clinic is a mixed billing practice with the primary focus on quality patient care.

Is an after-hours/weekend service provided? Yes. Saturday morning only on site. Blackwood Hospital after hours GP Clinic (Resuming services from 4th July 2011) and locum service.

Is hospital in-patient care provided? No (Due to the recent closure of Blackwood Hospital but this is currently under review). 
Are nursing home visits provided? Yes, local Nursing Homes - Kalyra and Resthaven. 
What access to specialists and other health professionals is available? Nearby radiology and pathology collection centres. Local allied health and visiting specialists. 
Aspects of medicine in your practice that will be a feature of registrar training A wide range of patients are seen at the Blackwood Clinic with doctors having a diverse range of skills. Doctors' interests range from mental health, preventative care, shared care surgical excisions, immunisations, aged care, dermatology, paediatrics and counselling. Excellent nursing support provided.

On-site and after-hours supervision to meet professional standards  Registrar is well supported and a Supervisor is present onsite at all times.
Provision is made for registrars to attend education activities

Weekly pharmaceutical representatives' lunches.

Monthly educational meetings onsite (Clinical or Journal Club).

Registrars will be required to move rooms - not a designated room.

Each room is set up in a standardised manner and we are fully computerised with Best Practice Clinical and Management software.
