Under the Medicare Plus package, announced in 2004, the Australian Government has introduced a new initiative designed to provide junior doctors with the opportunity to work in general practice in a range of outer metropolitan, regional, rural and remote areas.
General practice rotations will average 10 weeks in duration with the principle objective of providing interns with high quality training in procedural and other practice skills in a wide range and depth of clinical situations.
The Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practioners (RACGP) have been given the role of managing the program.
Funding to June 2008 has been provided to Sturt Fleurieu for following intern rotations:
